When putting a child on a school bus, one believes that he or she is safe and will make it to school without issue. Sadly, for a few parents in Louisiana recently, their kids’ bus ride ended up being anything but safe due to the actions of a truck driver. When truck accidents happen, the damage done can be quite severe. Luckily, this event did not turn out as badly as it could have.
According to a recent news report, a bus driver had stopped to pick up her fourth student for the day when an 18-wheeler smashed into the back of her vehicle. The semitrailer caught fire, but the driver was able to get out unharmed. The bus driver acted quickly and was able to remove the students from the bus. One of the students suffered injuries and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment and observation. The other children went home with their parents.
While no serious injuries were reported, the injuries associated with rear-end accidents are not always immediately apparent. If the bus driver or any of the children experience symptoms of injuries in the days or weeks following this event, seeking medical attention is strongly advised. Untreated injuries can have long-term consequences.
Following truck accidents, victims may be entitled to pursue compensation for their losses by filing personal injuries claims in a Louisiana civil court. Compensation for all documented economic and noneconomic damages may be sought. In this particular case, an experienced attorney can assist the victims in seeking maximum relief through settlement negotiations or litigation.
