Bicyclist victim of fatal accident in Louisiana

On Behalf of | Dec 18, 2014 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Cars are one of the most convenient and most often used modes of transportation in the United States. Almost every household in Louisiana has at least one car; many have more than one. Teenagers and adults drive their cars every day to various locations. These seemingly convenient pieces of machinery can, however, become lethal for those who do not comply with the safety regulations and traffic laws.

A 55-year-old Louisiana resident was riding a bike without a helmet on the highway when he was struck from behind by a car. The impact threw the victim from his bike, causing the injuries that would take his life. The victim died at the scene where a preliminary investigation was conducted by local law enforcement.

One of the most common causes of fatal car accidents is violations of traffic ordinances. These violations may include not heeding posted speed limits, not stopping at traffic signals or signs or driving distracted, which refers to any situation where the driver of the car loses concentration. Some common forms of distracted driving include texting while driving, talking on a cell phone while driving or even driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

If a driver caused a car accident due to any negligence on their part, the driver could be required to compensate any victims of the accident. Families of victims of fatal accidents may avail professional legal help in order to initiate a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver as well as their insurance company.
