Fatal Lafayette car accident leaves loved ones asking why

A young mother was killed in a car accident early last month and her friends are wondering why the driver has not yet been held responsible. A spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department said that although the driver of the other vehicle did submit to a blood test at a hospital after the fatal accident on June 9th, the results are not back yet and police cannot charge a suspect until there is actual evidence of drunk driving. The victim's family members and friends are left wondering why the delay in toxicology tests in the case.

Louisiana boating safety and increased DWI enforcements

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries 36 people died last year in boating crashes, and five of those deaths could be attributed to alcohol use. National statistics reveal in 2011 that 16 percent of all boating accident fatalities were directly related to the use of drugs or alcohol. That same year, the LDWF issued a total of 108 DWI citations to boat operators, ten of which were issued over one weekend dubbed Operation Dry Water.

Fatal Lafayette car accident claims life of mother

As virtually all drivers are aware, the potential to be involved in a car accident is there each and every time one sets out on the road. A majority of the motor vehicle accidents that occur in Lafayette and beyond are relatively minor and result in only property damage. When they are more serious however, severe injuries can result. While no one wants to think about it, in the worst cases, death can ensue.
