Louisiana seaman sues for boat accident


Employment is often at the center of most Louisianan's livelihood. Individuals look forward to working, particularly if their employment offers them the ability to sustain and maintain their lifestyles. Of course, the foundation of an individual's livelihood can all too often be shaken up by an accident. An accident can make working impossible or cause an indefinite delay in income.

Louisiana girl critically injured in boating accident

A six year-old Louisiana girl was left in critical condition after a boating accident this week. She remains at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, hopefully to make a full recovery. Sadly, such critical injuries are all too common following boat accidents. Thus, it is important for boaters to be familiar with Louisiana laws and regulations relating to boating to help minimize accidents, injuries and the related damages.

As the summer months approach, more people are venturing out on the water. Water sports, like boating, should be approached with caution. Boating accidents are not uncommon. As with the operation of any motor vehicle, reasonable care must be exercised when operating a boat.

Unfortunately, accidents of all types are not uncommon in Louisiana. While some of these are unpreventable or nearly so, others are directly caused by the actions of others. Boat accidents are one example as they are frequently caused by the irresponsible behavior of others.

Louisiana boating safety and increased DWI enforcements

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries 36 people died last year in boating crashes, and five of those deaths could be attributed to alcohol use. National statistics reveal in 2011 that 16 percent of all boating accident fatalities were directly related to the use of drugs or alcohol. That same year, the LDWF issued a total of 108 DWI citations to boat operators, ten of which were issued over one weekend dubbed Operation Dry Water.
