In early May, a wrong-way driver caused a car crash that claimed the life of one individual. This driver is now facing criminal charges for the incident. If the deceased’s family so desires, they can file a wrongful death claim against this individual in a Louisiana civil court.
According to reports, on the evening of May 7, a 26-year-old male was operating his pickup truck in the wrong direction on an unspecified highway in Morganza. While doing so, he struck the vehicle of a 20-year-old male head-on. Sadly, the victim died at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck was not wearing his seat belt and suffered injures in the wreck. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Upon his release from the hospital, he was taken into police custody and booked in the Pointe Coupee Parish Detention Center on the charges of negligent homicide and not wearing a seat belt. Investigators do not believe he was impaired, but toxicology tests are pending.
Right now, there are a lot more questions than answers in this case. An experienced attorney may be able to assist the victim’s surviving family members with getting the answers that they need to move forward from this tragic event. If appropriate, legal counsel may also be able to help them seek compensation for their losses by filing a wrongful death claim in a Louisiana court. If such a claim is successful, they may achieve maximum relief for their documented losses, whether those are economic or noneconomic in nature.
