Louisiana wrongful death: Motorcyclist killed in wreck

On Behalf of | Mar 26, 2020 | wrongful death

Lake Charles Police are in the process of investigating a recent crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist. This accident occurred March 23 on Nelson Road. If driver negligence is believed a contributing factor in this case, the victim’s surviving family members may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses by filing a wrongful death claim in a Louisiana civil court.

According to reports, just before 7 p.m., the victim was operating his vehicle southbound on Nelson Road when a car turned left out of a Kroger parking lot directly in front of him. The motorcyclist had no time to react and collided with the vehicle. Sadly, he died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the car suffered injuries in the wreck. This individual was taken to a nearby medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries. As of the latest report, no charges have been filed in this case. Law enforcement authorities have not indicated if charges are expected, as the investigation is still ongoing.

Losing a loved one in an accident like this is devastating. The victim’s loved ones will likely find themselves struggling in several ways in the days, weeks, months and even years ahead, as they try to overcome this. Thankfully, according to the laws of Louisiana, not all of their losses have to be shouldered alone. With the assistance of legal counsel, relief for the various economic and non-economic damages suffered as a result of this collision may be achieved by pursuing a wrongful death claim. Many of these cases are resolved through out-of-court negotiations, though, sometimes litigation is necessary.
