Car accidents are a common occurrence in the Baton Rouge area. According to a recent report, this particular Louisiana city is actually one of the nation’s most accident-prone cities. Why is that? What can victims of these accidents or — in the event of fatality — their surviving family members do in order to seek compensation for their losses?
Go Safe Labs looked at all accidents reported in the lower 48 states in the years 2018 and 2019. In doing so, it found that Baton Rouge had a total of 11,313 reported auto collisions in 2019 alone. That was fewer than was seen in 2018, by nearly 6%. These numbers resulted in this city being ranked eighth highest for car accidents in the country.
Why? The news report does not go into a lot of detail. If one looks directly at the Go Safe Labs report, it states that high traffic volume is one of the leading factors. Of course, distracted and impaired driving are typically factors as well.
Anyone in the Baton Rouge area who suffers injuries or loses a loved one in a car accident may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses. State laws are in place to help victims of such incidents recover certain damages. Those who are interested in seeking relief can turn to legal counsel for assistance. In many cases, compensation may be achieved through out-of-court negotiations, though some may end up having to battle things out in court. An experienced personal injury attorney can review the details of one’s case and help one take the actions necessary to seek relief.
