Wrong-way driver caused multi-vehicle crash that claimed 1 life

Charges are pending against a gentleman who caused a fatal collision on Interstate 10 near Lake Charles. The multi-vehicle crash involved four automobiles. One Louisiana woman lost her life in the wreck.

According to reports, a 76-year-old male was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the interstate when he struck a pickup truck. Instead of stopping, he continued going and then hit another truck, causing that vehicle to strike another automobile. The driver of the first impacted vehicle, a 52-year-old male, was reportedly uninjured in the wreck. The driver of the second affected vehicle, a 83-year-old woman, sadly died at the scene. Finally, the driver of the third car hit, a 61-year-old male, is said to have walked away unharmed.

The driver responsible for this mess did suffer minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Law enforcement investigators are trying to determine if impairment, distraction or fatigue contributed to this event. Charges are pending as police await toxicology results.

It is not uncommon for a multi-vehicle crash on an interstate to end as this one did. While such accidents can happen for a number of reasons, negligence of some sort often plays a part. If it does, victims, or in this case, the victim's surviving family members, may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses. With the assistance of legal counsel, the victim's loved one may pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver responsible for the collision by filing civil actions in a Louisiana court. Such cases can often be settled through out-of-court negotiations, though there are times when litigation may prove necessary in order to seek maximum relief.
