Louisiana wrongful death: At least 2 killed in Hard Rock accident

Construction workers have tough jobs that are often dangerous. Sadly, as seen in the recent Hard Rock hotel accident, some of these hard-working individuals do not make it home at the end of the day. If negligence is believed to be a factor behind their deaths, their surviving family members may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses by filing wrongful death claims in a Louisiana civil court.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, a construction team was working on the new Hard Rock hotel in New Orleans when the unthinkable happened. For reasons yet to be explained, several upper floors collapsed, ultimately causing one side of the building to come crashing down to the ground. Several workers were hurt in the incident, and at least two were killed. As of the latest report, one person is still unaccounted for.

Why does an accident on the other side of the state matter? It simply serves as a reminder that those who are employed in the construction industry put their lives on the line every day they go to work. Their employers are supposed to do all that they can to ensure their working environments are as safe as can be, but accidents happen. When they do, the victims' family members want to know why and who can be held accountable.

In Louisiana, when workplace accidents occur, workers' compensation may be available to cover any losses suffered by injured victims or -- in the event of fatality -- their surviving family members. Sometimes, though, the compensation offered through this benefit may seem insufficient for the damages sustained. If, as previously stated, negligence is believed to be behind a workplace accident that results in the loss of life, the victim's loved ones may file a wrongful death claim in an effort to seek maximum relief.
