1 injured, 1 killed in recent crash in Lake Charles

On Behalf of | May 30, 2019 | motor vehicle accidents

On Thursday, May 23, two vehicles collided in Lake Charles killing one driver and injuring the other. Police are still in the process of investigating this crash. At this time, they are unsure what caused the driver responsible to cross into the other driver’s lane.

According to reports, a 40-year-old male was operating his vehicle westbound on Mark LeBleu Road when he crossed the center line and hit an eastbound pickup truck. This individual suffered critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital for care. Sadly, he later succumbed to those injuries.

The driver of the pickup was hurt in the collision. While little is known about this individual, it was reported that he or she was treated for injuries authorities described as non life-threatening. His or her current condition is unknown.

Investigators have not indicated whether impairment was a factor in this case. Per state laws, toxicology testing is required to be performed on both drivers. The test results have yet to be made available to the public.

As the driver responsible for the car crash failed to survive the incident, the victim may feel that he or she really has no legal recourse. This may not be the case. It may be possible to pursue compensation from the responsible party’s insurance provider and file claims against his estate in an effort to seek further compensation. With the assistance of a Lake Charles-based personal injury attorney, this victim can do everything necessary to seek to recover his or her losses regardless if they are economic or noneconomic in nature.
