Louisiana motor vehicle accidents: Drunk driver hit pedestrians

On March 15, law enforcement officers in Louisiana were called to an auto-pedestrian crash that left one person with significant injuries. The driver responsible for this event is said to have been under the influence of an impairing substance at the time of the collision. When motor vehicle accidents are the result of impaired driving, victims may be entitled to pursue compensation for their losses through legal means.

According to a news report, a 38-year-old male was operating his vehicle on Perkins Road, at the 3700 block, when he somehow struck two pedestrians. One of the victims required immediate medical attention, having suffered injuries to his or her face, and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Information about this individual's current condition has not been released to the public.

While investigating the accident, the driver failed to comply with officer demands. He was eventually taken into police custody and transferred to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He has been charged with DWI, reckless operation of a car, resisting an officer and vehicular negligent injuries.

Motor vehicle accidents that involve pedestrians often leave the victims with significant, if not fatal injuries. Thankfully, in this case, both victims survived the event, though they are both likely struggling with various physical, emotional and financial losses as a result of the crash. The state of Louisiana allows victims of auto-pedestrian collisions to seek relief for their losses when negligence is believed to have contributed to the event. As impaired driving is a factor in this case, establishing negligence may prove fairly easy, allowing the victims to achieve maximum relief through negotiation or, if necessary, litigation.
