Louisiana motor vehicle accidents: Pedestrian hit by car

On Behalf of | Dec 13, 2018 | motor vehicle accidents

Police in Louisiana recently arrested the man that they say is responsible for striking a pedestrian with his car and leaving the accident scene. The victim survived the incident and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. When pedestrians are injured in motor vehicle accidents, they may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses.

According to reports, a 36-year-old male was walking near Tiara Drive and Airport Road in Slidell when he was struck by a passing car. The driver — a 65-year-old male — failed to stop and left the victim lying unresponsive on the shoulder of the road. The victim’s mother says that all of his ribs as well as his sternum were broken in the incident. He also suffered injuries to his head that caused his brain to swell. As of the latest report, the victim was in intensive care and on a ventilator.

While investigating the accident, police found a vehicle with damage consistent with the accident at a home not too far from the scene. Authorities promptly arrested the owner. He has been charged with negligent injuring, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and careless operation. This individual does have a history of driving under the influence of alcohol, but it is unclear if that was an issue in this particular case.

Right now, there is no saying how the victim with fair as he recovers from his injuries. The damages he has experienced may affect him for the rest of his life. Thankfully, the state of Louisiana allows victims of motor vehicle accidents resulting from negligent behavior to seek compensation for their losses through legal means. An experienced personal injury attorney can help this individual file and litigate any applicable claims in civil court in an effort to seek maximum relief.
