Louisiana wrongful death: Trucker injured in hit-and-run dies

The driver of an oil tanker was found injured near his truck on an Interstate 10 off-ramp in Gonzales. It has been determined that an unknown driver struck the man while he was inspecting an issue with his truck. Sadly, the victim died of his injuries. According to the state of Louisiana, the surviving family members of the victim may seek compensation for their losses by filing a wrongful death claim in civil court.

According to a local news report, police were called to the LA 44 off-ramp regarding person lying in the roadway. When they arrived, they found a 57-year-old male with significant injuries to his upper body and legs. He was incoherent and in need of immediate medical attention. He was transported to the hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Upon investigating the matter, it was discovered that the man had pulled his tanker-trailer over around 2:34 a.m. for a tire blowout. Police were called about the accident at 3:22 a.m. At this point, no one has been identified as the responsible party. Police are asking any witnesses or anyone who has knowledge about the event to step forward.

The victim is survived by his seven children who range in age from 3 to 17. His family is surely desperate for answers and is likely reeling from this loss. When the person responsible for the accident is found, criminal charges may follow. Further, wrongful death actions may be filed against him or her in a Louisiana civil court in order for the victim’s loved ones to seek justice and compensation. It may also be possible to pursue monetary relief through the state’s workers’ compensation insurance program on behalf of the deceased victim’s family.
