Louisiana truck accidents: 1 dead, 2 injured in recent wreck

Louisiana State Police are in the process of investigating a crash involving a box truck and three cars. This incident occurred in the Rapides Parish area on Highway 28. When truck accidents occur, victims or -- in the event of fatality -- their surviving family members may have legal recourse.

Traffic was a mess on Highway 28 for several hours on July 17, after the driver of a box truck -- a 30-year-old male -- decided to make a move and cross the center line in an effort to pass another car. During his attempt to pass, he ran head-on into a pickup truck. the driver of that vehicle -- an 86-year-old male -- died in the collision. After striking the pickup, the box truck hit two other cars before coming to a stop. The driver of one of those cars -- a 38-year-old male -- suffered injuries in the wreck.

The box truck driver was also injured in the event. After being checked by emergency crews he was arrested, charged and booked into the local detention center. The charge against him is negligent homicide. It is unclear if court dates regarding this matter have been scheduled.

Truck accidents happen all too often in Louisiana. The victims of these incidents, or their surviving family members, may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses by filing civil claims against all those who may be held liable. In this particular case, legal claims may be filed against the truck driver and, possibly, his employer. Through litigation or settlement negotiations, monetary relief for all recoverable losses may be achieved.
