Louisiana wrongful death: Motorcyclist killed in recent wreck

On Behalf of | Jun 28, 2018 | wrongful death

A Louisiana man recently lost his life in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred in St. Charles Parish. This event occurred on I-10 and is believed to be the result of one driver operating his vehicle too fast for traffic conditions. If this is the case, the victim’s surviving family members may pursue a wrongful death claim in civil court in an effort to seek compensation for their losses.

According to a news report, this incident occurred Friday, June 22, at approximately 3:30 p.m. A 27-year-old male was allegedly speeding in the left lane of the interstate and failed to adjust his speed for slowing traffic. This individual struck the back end of a pickup and caused a chain reaction crash that involved a motorcycle and another truck. The drivers of the two trucks were uninjured in the event, but the motorcyclist — a 27-year-old male — suffered fatal injuries. He died before he could be transported for medical treatment.

The driver responsible for the collision suffered moderate injuries in the crash. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police do not believe that impairment was a factor in this event. Criminal charges are pending in this case.

Speeding is a very real issue in Louisiana and in every other state. Numerous individuals suffer injuries or lose their lives in accidents resulting from drivers operating their vehicles above posted speed limits — yet so many people still do it. Speeding is a form of driver negligence. In this particular case, the victim’s loved ones, with the help of legal counsel, may pursue a wrongful death claim in a Louisiana civil court. If negligence is established to the satisfaction of the court, a monetary judgment may be entered in their favor.
