Louisiana wrongful death: Man killed in auto-pedestrian accident

A Louisiana man who was trying to do good by cleaning up debris on the road has died. He was apparently struck by a car while performing his good deed. If negligence is thought to have contributed to this accident, the victim's surviving family members may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim in order to seek compensation for their losses.

On Wednesday, May 30, at approximately 3:15 p.m., it was reported that a 31-year-old male was operating his vehicle southbound on US 171 when he noticed debris in the road. He stopped and went about cleaning up the mess. While doing this, an 18-year-old male in a pickup truck hit the man. The victim was rushed to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are still in the process of investigating this incident. At this time, there are numerous unknowns in this case. Investigators are not sure if drug or alcohol use contributed to this event. Toxicology results are pending. No charges have been filed in this matter, and it is unclear if any are pending.

There is nothing that can be said that will make this situation any better for the family members of the victim. They lost a loved one, and before authorities even had the chance to contact them about it, the teenager who hit him posted images of the scene on Snapchat for the world to see. According to the laws of Louisiana, if driver negligence is thought to be responsible for this auto-pedestrian accident, the victim's loved ones may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim in court in an effort to seek damages for their losses. An experienced attorney can review the fine details of this case and help the decedent's surviving family members take legal action if doing so is deemed appropriate.
