Family of woman killed in crash may file wrongful death claim

A Louisiana woman recently lost her life in a tragic auto accident. The driver believed responsible was cited for the incident and may face further criminal charges. As negligence is believed to have contributed to this wreck, the surviving family members of the victim may pursue a wrongful death claim in civil court in an effort to seek compensation for their losses.

It was recently reported that a 70-year-old woman of Baton Rouge was operating her vehicle at the intersection of Florida Boulevard and Lobdell Drive. She was making a turn on a green arrow when a truck entered the intersection and struck her car. She was transported to an area hospital where she later died.

The individual thought responsible for the crash is said to be a 68-year-old man. He was cited for failing to stop at a red light and reckless operation of his truck. Authorities have stated that other charges may be pending, but failed to elaborate on what kind of charges are being considered.

When going about one's day, no one expects to be involved in an accident that ends their life. Unfortunately, in Louisiana and elsewhere, it happens all too often, as some people fail to operate their vehicles with care. According to state laws, a wrongful death claim may be filed in this case by a personal representative of the victim against the man deemed responsible for the loss of life. If such a claim is successful, damages for both economic and non-economic losses suffered by the victim's family members may be awarded.
