Louisiana wrongful death: Head-on crash claims 3 lives

| Dec 10, 2017 | wrongful death

An auto collision in Louisiana has claimed three lives. This wreck occurred at the beginning of December in the New Orleans area. The surviving family members of the victims may pursue compensation for their losses by filing wrongful death claims in civil court.

According to a recent news story, on Saturday, Dec. 4, around 9 a.m., a pickup truck crossed the center line of traffic while on the Highway 11 bridge and collided head-on with a car. In the car was a 34-year-old male and a 29-year-old female who was seven months pregnant. The victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Sadly, both adults and the fetus died shortly after arrival.

The driver believed responsible for this event did survive. At this time, police are unclear if drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident. It is not believed that any charges have been filed in this case, and it is unclear if any criminal charges are pending.

This was a tragic event, one that the victims’ families are not likely to move beyond for quite some time. Those surviving family members who wish to pursue claims for monetary compensation for their losses may have the right to do so with the assistance of legal counsel. A successfully litigated wrongful death claim, while it cannot bring back the lives lost, may provide some relief during this difficult time. A Louisiana court may award compensation for any and all recoverable damages such as medical bills, funeral expenses, emotional pain and suffering — among other documented losses.
