Every year, numerous Louisiana residents end up in emergency rooms with head traumas due to auto collisions. Children, teens, adults — it does not matter. It happens to them all. When victims of motor vehicle accidents suffer severe head trauma, they or — if unable — their loved ones may pursue compensation for any resulting losses.
According to the Mayo Clinic, there are a number of complications associated with significant head injuries. Some victims may enter an altered conscious state from which they may never wake up. Those who do wake up may suffer severe impairments. Such impairments can make it difficult, and sometimes impossible, for them to return to life as they knew it.
What are some other common complications? Many people who suffer traumatic brain injuries will have seizures. They may be short lived and only occur for a short while following the event, or they could be recurring seizures that may always be an issue. Others may experience nerve damage, infections, degenerative brain diseases and sensory problems — among other issues.
Head trauma is no joke. Those who experience it as a result of motor vehicle accidents caused by the negligence of other individuals may, according to the state of Louisiana, have legal recourse. Victims or, if necessary, their families may pursue civil action against those believed responsible for their losses. If negligence can be established successfully in court, a judge may grant the victim and his or her family members monetary compensation for any economic and non-economic damages sustained.
