Louisiana truck accidents: Trucker arrested following fatal crash

On Behalf of | Nov 17, 2017 | Truck Accidents

A young woman in Louisiana recently died in a crash with an 18-wheeler. The truck driver has been arrested and charged for his role in the incident. When fatal truck accidents happen, it is okay for surviving family members of the victims to seek answers and relief.

According to a recent report, a 29-year-old woman was a passenger in a pickup traveling on I-55 near Kentwood that was rear-ended by a big rig. She suffered critical injuries in the wreck and died at the scene. The driver — the victim’s 51-year-old mother, and another passenger — a 9-month-old baby, suffered minor injuries.

The driver believed responsible for the wreck was also injured, though his injuries were minor. Soon after the event, this individual was booked into a local jail. Charges against him are many and include speeding, negligent homicide, negligent injuries and following too closely. Additional charges may also be filed in this case, pending the results of the investigation, which is still ongoing. Police do not believe that the truck driver was impaired when the collision occurred.

This is a sad event all around. A mother lost her child, a child lost his or her mother, and a truck driver’s life, as he knows it, hangs in the balance. When truck accidents occur, victims or — in the event of fatality, such as in this case — surviving family members may pursue legal claims against the driver and his or her employer in an effort to seek compensation for any losses suffered. If litigation in a Louisiana civil court proves successful, maximum relief may be awarded.
