Louisiana truck accidents: Semitrailer plows into several cars

On Behalf of | Oct 7, 2017 | Truck Accidents

Near the end of September, a semitrailer was traveling on Interstate 10 in Louisiana when it plowed into three cars. Several people were injured in the wreck. As is true for all truck accidents, this incident is being investigated by law enforcement officials.

According to a local news report, a 43-year-old male was operating an 18-wheeler in the eastbound lanes of the I-10. Traffic began to slow, but this driver was unable to stop in time and slammed into three vehicles in front of him. One of the cars was pushed underneath another semitrailer which had already come to a stop. A total of eight people were hurt in the wreck and all were transported to area medical facilities with injuries in the moderate to severe range.

The east and westbound lanes of the Interstate were closed for several hours in order to allow investigators time to review scene and gather evidence. Shortly following the event, the driver deemed responsible was cited for the incident. He is charged with negligent injury — five counts — and careless operation of his vehicle — one count.

With truck accidents like this, it is a miracle everyone survived. These massive machines can do so much damage. Those injured in this wreck are likely facing physical, emotional and financial difficulties as a result. Per the laws of Louisiana, each of these individuals may be entitled to pursue civil claims against the driver and his employer in an effort to seek compensation for their losses. Only through the successful establishment of negligence will monetary judgments be awarded.
