Louisiana motor vehicle accidents: Man hit by texting driver

On Behalf of | Oct 26, 2017 | motor vehicle accidents

On Friday, Oct. 13, a young Louisiana man was out riding his motorcycle when he was struck by a car. The driver responsible is believed to have been texting when the collision occurred. Sadly, this type of distraction leads to numerous motor vehicle accidents across the state every year.

What started out as a typical Friday ride ended with a man waking up in a hospital with no recollection of how he got there. This individual was operating his motorcycle when a car struck him and threw him to the ground. He suffered significant injuries, including a broken pelvis and damage to the lower portion of his spine.

Information about the driver believed responsible for this incident has not been released to the public. The victim does believe it was someone that he knew. It has not been reported if any charges have been filed in this case.

The victim has two young children at home and now his big concern is being able to take care of them. Due to the severity of his injuries, it is not likely that he will be returning to work anytime soon. Thankfully, according to the state of Louisiana, when motor vehicle accidents are the result of negligent actions — such as texting while driving, — victims may have legal recourse. The victim in this case may pursue recovery of monetary damages by filing a personal injury claim in civil court. If litigation is successful, maximum relief for any and all legally recoverable damages may be awarded.
