Louisiana admiralty law: Several hurt in oil rig explosion

On Sunday, Oct. 15, an oil rig exploded in Louisiana. According to initial reports, seven people were injured and one was missing. When such accidents occur, an admiralty law attorney can help victims or -- in the event of fatality -- their surviving family members seek compensation for their losses.

This accident is said to have occurred sometime in the evening near Lake Pontchartrain which is located about 30 minutes north of the New Orleans area. Residents close to the accident site reported hearing a loud noise, and some even say their houses shook shortly after the blast. Several emergency response teams rushed to the scene. At least seven oil rig workers were injured and transported to medical facilities for treatment, five of whom are believed to be in critical condition. It is unknown if they were able to locate the missing individual.

At this time, why this incident occurred is unknown. The oil rig in question is operated by Clovelly Oil. They, along with the appropriate authorities, will likely be investigating the cause of this matter for some time.

Oil rig workers have dangerous jobs; there is no question about that. When incidents like this occur, injured individuals or surviving family members of deceased individuals may not feel that they have many options when it comes to seeking relief for their losses, but this is not true. Oil rig workers in Louisiana are protected under admiralty laws, and an attorney who specializes in this field can assist victims in seeking full and fair compensation for any damages sustained.
