What can be done after being injured in a hit-and-run?

| May 18, 2017 | Car Accidents

There is a reason that there are so many traffic laws in Louisiana. They keep motorists safe, but they are effective only when people follow them. But, people routinely violate these laws and sometimes, car accidents occur as a result. In some accidents, people suffer injuries. That is why it is also a law that people have insurance and are required to stop and exchange information.

Unfortunately, people do not always follow this rule. These are commonly called, hit-and-run accidents. This leaves the victim in a difficult position because they may not know whom to contact to receive compensation for their injuries.

Luckily, some people in this position may be able to receive compensation from their own insurance company through uninsured motorist insurance. The victim does need to verify that the accident truly was a hit-and-run accident though.

To do this, they may need an independent, disinterested witness who can verify that an unknown driver caused the accident. If the victim can do this, then they could receive compensation from their insurance.

There are many car accidents every year in Louisiana. Many of them could have been avoided, if people paid attention and followed the rules of the road. These accidents leave people in difficult situations, both physically and financially.

The victims may be entitled to compensation for their damages though. Who is responsible for the compensation depends on how the accident occurred, and if the person causing the accident stayed at the scene or has insurance. Experienced attorneys understand the law in this area and may be a useful resource.
