Car accident injuries can be slow to develop

On Behalf of | Dec 1, 2016 | Car Accidents

After an auto accident in Louisiana, it is common for each driver to ask the other driver if they are hurt. Initially, car accident victims might think they are not hurt right after a crash. However, they may find a few hours, days or even weeks later that they actually have suffered an injury.

Some of the most common injuries in an auto accident are injuries to the soft tissues of the neck and back. Symptoms from these injuries can take some time to develop. A person may feel alright, if a little shaken up, at the scene of the crash. Days later they may begin to experience pain and stiffness in the neck, back or both.

Head injuries sometimes follow a similar pattern. Some of the symptoms of a concussion may be immediately present after the car collision. But sometimes, symptoms like headache, memory loss, confusion, disorientation and psychological problems may not manifest themselves for some time after the accident. In some cases, these symptoms may be the signs of a serious brain injury.

Insurance company adjusters sometimes try to argue that if an accident victim didn’t go to the emergency room immediately after the accident, or said they were not hurt at the scene, they must not really be hurt. Experienced personal injury lawyers have seen this trick many times; they know that injuries from a car crash often take some time to develop.

At the Gaar Law Firm we understand the anger and frustration car accident victims feel when insurance company representatives question whether they are really injured. We are committed to fighting for the rights of our clients and pursuing fair compensation for their pain and suffering.
