Fatal trucking accident claims life of man in Louisiana

On Behalf of | Nov 2, 2016 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Any kind of truck can be an intimidating sight on the Louisiana roadways and this is even worse when the vehicle is operated in a reckless manner. A crash involving a large vehicle like a dump truck can lead to a fatal accident. When there is a fatal trucking accident due to a reckless motorist, the loss of a loved one is made even worse, because it was so unnecessary. Those who are confronted with this reality need to know how to pursue compensation in a legal filing.

A fatal crash involving three vehicles led to the arrest of a 26-year-old dump truck driver. The accident happened at approximately 6:00 a.m. According to law enforcement, the truck was heading east and tried crossing to the northbound lanes of the road. As the driver did so, the rear of the truck was in the northbound left lane. A 29-year-old man was driving his BMW in the left lane and hit the rear wheels and dump portion of the truck. The BMW spun into the right lane and hit a Ford F-150 being operated by a 59-year-old man. Although the man in the BMW wore his seatbelt, he still suffered fatal injuries in the accident. The driver of the dump truck was placed under arrest for not stopping at a stop sign.

When there is a fatal accident, the family that has lost a loved one will have a lot of emotional, personal and financial issues they have to sift through. This can leave them vulnerable to an insurance company contacting them and trying to offer a preemptive settlement to preclude a legal filing. In their moment of upheaval, they might not calculate everything that the loss of a loved one will cost them and accept the offer. This is often a major mistake. With the loss of income, loss of companionship, bills and medical costs, the settlement will often not be sufficient.

In this incident, a man died when a dump truck made an illegal maneuver, left its rear in his path and caused a crash. While it might provide a small amount of solace that the truck driver was arrested, that will not help the man’s family over the long term. Families in this situation need to make sure they understand their legal rights, including the right to adequate compensation.
