Fatal accident claims Lafayette woman’s life

On Behalf of | Mar 4, 2015 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Motor vehicle accidents are not uncommon in Louisiana, and because of this residents of Lafayette remain concerned about the safety of their loved ones. An accident can be caused by several factors, including negligent driving and drunk driving.

While some motor vehicle accident victims can suffer serious injuries and permanent disability, some may be victims of fatal motor vehicle accidents. In addition to facing criminal charges, a negligent driver may also be liable for damages in a fatal motor vehicle accident case.

In a recent fatal accident, a 66-year-old Lafayette woman lost her life. Reports stated that the victim was hit in the back of her car by another car that was being driven by a 23-year-old driver when she was stopped in a left turn lane. The collision resulted in the victim being pushed into the intersection and colliding with another car that was driven by a person who worked for the same company as the victim.

Reports stated that the accident occurred at the intersection of Moss Street and Halifax Drive and the victim’s vehicle was engulfed in flames immediately after the second collision. Reports stated that both surviving drivers were taken to a hospital for treatment for their minor injuries. While one person was released after receiving treatment, another stayed at the hospital and reports stated that he would be arrested after his release.

According to the report, in addition to facing charges for operating while intoxicated, the negligent driver faces charges under various applicable legal provisions, such as vehicular homicide and careless operation. This fatal accident will be the negligent driver’s second OWI charge.
