Multi-vehicle truck accident causes multiple injuries

On Behalf of | Sep 25, 2014 | Truck Accidents

Truck accidents can occur unexpectedly and have a significant impact on the lives of victims. A serious truck accident in a nearby state recently sent two people to the hospital with injuries and left another with minor injuries. Two of the injured individuals had to be airlifted to the hospital. The multi-vehicle wreck involved three semi trucks, two of which rolled over, and a SUV. The accident occurred when one of the semi-truck drivers lost control of the tractor trailer, went off the left side of the roadway and overcorrected, causing the semi to lie down on its side in the highway.

As the tractor trailer was lying overturned in the roadway, two more semi trucks and an SUV ran into the trailer. According to authorities, there was no way the other two semi truck drivers and driver of the SUV could have avoided the collision. One official noted that it was dark outside at the time of the accident and that drivers have an expectation when driving down the highway that their lane will be clear of anything unexpectedly blocking it. The police investigation is ongoing and police are attempting to determine the reason why the semi-truck went off the road prior to entering the roadway again and overturning.

Tractor-trailer crashes can lead to significant harm of a variety of different types. Because of this, compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering damages and other types of damages may be available to victims. A truck driver who is negligent, such as a distracted truck driver, or truck driver experiencing truck driver fatigue, and causes a truck accident may be liable to the victim for damages. Just as any other driver on the roadway, truck drivers are required to abide by a duty of care to ensure the safety of others they share the roadway with. Additionally, depending on the nature of the relationship between the truck driver and the truck company, the truck company that employs the truck driver may also be liable to the victim for damages.

Truck accidents can sometimes be complicated to sort out and may cause substantial injuries and harm. Because of this, being knowledgeable about options available to victims may help those who have been extensively harmed in a truck accident.
