Two children dead after fishing group hit by car

On Behalf of | Jul 2, 2014 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

While thousands of vehicles safely travel across Louisiana each and every day, there are unfortunately instances of tragedy involving motor vehicles. These accidents can take many forms, but they can be especially heart wrenching if they end in a wrongful death. Such an accident occurred recently and while the details are still being sorted out, the ramifications are undeniable.

Two children, ages six and nine, were killed after being struck by a car as they fishing with their father and two other adults near Bluff Road. A Nissan traveling on a nearby road careened down an embankment and hit the group as they were fishing, killing the two children and injuring the adults. The men were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge and were treated for minor and moderate injuries.

While the reason why the vehicle left the road and hit the group is currently under investigation, a routine toxicology test will be administered, although driver impairment is not suspected. Charges have not been filed at this time.

In such cases, the pain and suffering caused by the accident can be overwhelming, leaving the surviving family members searching for a possible way to help ease the pain. As the investigation continues, it is possible that driver negligence may come into play, providing the surviving family a reasonable path to legal action. While nothing will ever replace the loss of a loved one, compensation can possibly provide a more comfortable road ahead for the grieving process to proceed.
