Motorcyclist killed in crash with pickup in Louisiana

On Behalf of | Apr 3, 2014 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Because of their design, motorcycles are oftentimes more likely to be involved in accidents and riders are more likely to suffer serious injuries. By design, motorcycles are smaller than most other vehicles. This makes them less easy to see, thereby increasing the likelihood of an accident occurring. The small frames also leave the riders more exposed and vulnerable than occupants of larger, more protected vehicles. Therefore, the likelihood of serious injuries — or even death — resulting from an accident is also high.

A motorcyclist was killed recently in a fatal motorcycle accident in Louisiana. A man driving a pickup truck on a Louisiana highway overcorrected after swerving off the road. The overcorrection caused him to strike a motorcycle in the southbound lane that was driven by a 25-year-old man. The man who was riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The pickup truck driver was arrested and taken into custody in a Louisiana jail. He faces charges of DWI, vehicular homicide and careless operation.

When a loved one is ripped away by a driver who is suspected of acting carelessly, family members are oftentimes left with great emotional trauma. This emotional trauma is only made worse by the financial burden that is so often thrust on family members and loved ones. While nothing may be done to erase the trauma these families have been forced to endure, there are certain actions loved ones may be able to take to help ease some of the financial burden.

One such action is filing a wrongful death lawsuit. A wrongful death lawsuit, in some cases, can help loved ones potentially obtain monetary compensation. Monetary compensation can help with the costs associated with medical expenses and other accident expenses.
