Bus and truck accident ends with many injuries

On Behalf of | Oct 24, 2013 | Truck Accidents

There are many different forms of transportation. Sometimes, when large groups are traveling in Louisiana, they find that chartering a bus is the best form of transportation. It may be a cost-effective option that can keep the entire group together. As with any other form of travel, however, riding on a bus does not come without risk.

A recent collision between a charter bus and truck should remind Louisianans of this reality. Truck accidents can really occur anywhere. This particular accident occurred in mid-October in Jeff Davis Parish at the intersection of Highways 101 and 165. The police investigation remains underway, and potential liability remains unclear. Nonetheless, nearly 50 people were injured in the accident. The bus driver claims to have suffered serious injuries, and different passengers on the bus say they suffered minor injuries.

Although the risk of accidents is similar no matter what form of transportation a particular group decides to use, trucking accidents do pose some additional considerations. This is especially true for individuals who may have suffered injuries and other damages in a truck accident, and are contemplating filing a lawsuit to recover different expenses and pain and suffering.

One main difference is the possible defendants who can be named in a negligence lawsuit. In addition to including the particular individual driving the truck, an injured plaintiff should consider naming the trucking company, truck owner and related insurance providers.

A Louisianan who is injured may also consider filing a joint lawsuit with other possible plaintiffs. If individuals decide to proceed jointly, they may find that the cost of litigation can reduced — a benefit to them.

While accidents with trucks raise many of the same issues involved in other accidents, there are clearly other considerations as well. Identifying and weighing these different considerations when proceeding with a lawsuit can help maximize different benefits to plaintiffs.
