Louisiana motor vehicle accidents: 3 dead, 2 injured in wreck

On Behalf of | Oct 10, 2017 | motor vehicle accidents

State troopers in Louisiana were recently called to the scene of a head-on collision between a car and a truck. Three people are said to have died in this wreck, and two people were left with serious injuries. When motor vehicle accidents of this nature occur, victims and the surviving family members of deceased victims may have legal recourse.

According to a news report, this accident occurred the evening of Wednesday, September 13, in Jefferson Davis Parish. The driver of a car was headed eastbound on Interstate 10 when he or she crossed the median and struck a truck in a westbound lane head on. The driver and two passengers in the car all died at the scene. A third passenger in the car and the driver of the truck both survived the incident, but both are said to have suffered significant injuries.

Few other details about this event have been reported. Law enforcement investigators are still trying to determine what caused the driver of the car to leave his or her lane. As is common in cases where the driver responsible fails to survive, answers may be slow to come.

When motor vehicle accidents occur and the drivers responsible do not survive, victims or the surviving family members of deceased victims may not feel that they have any legal recourse. This may not be true, however. According to the laws of Louisiana, civil claims may be filed against the estates of the responsible parties if negligence is believed to have contributed the incidents. In cases where litigation proves successful, monetary judgments may be awarded.
