Negligent driver flees fatal accident

When getting behind the wheel of a car, there is a degree of risk and responsibility that is inherent in driving it. While most drivers are able to accept this responsibility, some crumble when the responsibility is greatest: owning up to their fault in a car accident as a negligent driver, no matter what the outcome.

One driver on Louisiana roads proved unable to do own up in this manner. Indeed, a car was stopped on Louisiana Highway 139 in order to make a left turn when a driver came up behind them and rear-ended them. The second driver fled the scene, later reporting that their car was stolen in an attempt to escape responsibility for the accident. After detainment, they confessed to driving the car and causing the accident, and the driver was arrested on several counts, including vehicular homicide, hit and run and driving under suspension.

The driver of the stopped car had two other passengers. The driver and a passenger suffered minor injuries. However, a one-year-old child was restrained improperly in the back seat at the time of the accident. Because of this, they suffered major injuries and later died at the hospital.

While the improper restraint may have contributed to the child's death, a fact is that a driver rear-ended a stationary car and then fled the scene. What's more, the driver was driving with a suspended license. With situations like these happening at an alarming rate across the country, negligent drivers remain one of the biggest risk factors in using a motor vehicle. Putting yourself at the mercy of other drivers sometimes has dire consequences. In such situations, seeking the assistance of an experience attorney can help those involved navigate toward a positive outcome.
