Juvenile is responsible for fatal accident, per authorities

On Behalf of | Apr 16, 2015 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Over the years, many car accidents on Louisiana roads have led to numerous fatalities. In many cases, the offending car’s driver may be found guilty of any number of traffic violations, including road rage, speeding, distracted driving or driving under the influence. Louisiana has strict laws which prohibit any car driver from violating its traffic laws. Another result of these numerous car accidents is that victims initiate personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits in order to attempt to receive compensation for medical expenses and for the loss of a loved one.

Recently, the mayor of Loreauville, Louisiana, became a victim of a fatal car accident that occurred in Iberia Parish. Investigation reports stated that a head-on collision of the two cars involved in the accident was caused by a juvenile passenger of one of the cars grabbing its steering wheel, which caused the car to veer into the car that carried the mayor.

Passengers in both cars suffered injuries of varying degrees of seriousness and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The mayor, however, succumbed to his injuries at the accident scene. It was also revealed during the accident investigation conducted by police that passengers in both cars were not wearing seatbelts as required by law, and they suffered the gravest of injuries, including the fatality.

A more in-depth investigation is currently being conducted and passengers and the driver who were not wearing seatbelts, as well as the juvenile whose actions reportedly caused the accident, received traffic citations. The apparent cause of the collision was obstruction to the driver. However, the preliminary accident investigation did not reveal any suspicion of driving under the influence as a cause for the crash.
