Accident between car and semi truck leaves 1 dead in Louisiana

On Behalf of | Sep 5, 2013 | Truck Accidents

Trucks serve an important purpose in Louisiana. They cheaply move large amounts of goods all over the state. Because of trucks, clothes, food and gas are delivered even to the most remote parts of the country. Despite their importance, trucks can also be menacing, especially when truck drivers do not devote their full attention to the road. Even the smallest mistake by a semi truck driver can cause a serious accidents that results in injuries or death.

Recently in Louisiana a woman was killed in a truck accident. In this case, police say that the 35-year-old woman was driving on Louisiana Highway 527 at around 7:30 p.m. one evening. While traveling west in her 2012 Nissan Sentra, she passed a semi-truck traveling in the same direction on the same road.

Police say that the woman appeared to be making a right turn, but at the last second turned left. At that moment, her car was hit by the truck. Despite the fact that she was wearing a seatbelt, she was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The truck driver was not hurt in the crash.

Police are investigating why and how this truck accident happened. The accident investigation will be important in determining if negligence on the part of the truck driver played a role in causing the truck collision. When a driver, including a truck driver, is negligent, that driver can be held financially responsible for any damages caused by the accident. Through a personal injury suit or a wrongful death suit, victims and their families can get the compensation they need to recover from an accident.

Following a fatal truck accident, the police investigation is particularly important to preserve any records kept by the driver. An attorney representing the victim’s family will also conduct their own investigation. The trucking log will help to determine if the driver had been following all the required safety rules and regulations and whether the driver had enough rest prior to the accident.
